Training program
Top Graph'X offers a very effective
set of trainig options to aid developers in their efforts to become
accomplished
CORBA developers. A one day Tutorial is available, as well as a more
in-depth 3-5 day hands-on class.
CORBA 3 and CORBA for Embedded Systems
A 1 day Tutorial
The morning session provides an overview of CORBA 3 with
emphasis on changes from CORBA 2.
The attendee need have no prior knowledge of CORBA. The session will
include a brief introduction to Distributed
Computing, in general. The morning session and about half the afternoon
session will include discussions of the CORBA
Principles, Interface Definition Language (IDL), Client Programs,
Object (server) programs, the Portable Object Adaptor
(POA), Event Service and the General Inter-ORB Protocol (GIOP).
The afternoon session will end with a discussion of more advanced
features of CORBA 3, including CORBA Messaging,
minimumCORBA and Real Time CORBA. These topics will be of particular
interest to those who might wish to use CORBA
for Embedded Systems. It will begin with a brief introduction to Embedded
Systems, including fundamentals of Concurrent
and Real Time systems, and of Computer Networks. All examples for
the tutorial will be based on the highly successful
Top Graph'X product, OrbAda, and the Ada95 programming language.

A Hands-on Class
This 3-5 day class begins by covering the basics of CORBA
3, but assumes no previous familiarity with CORBA. It then proceeds
to cover enchancements to CORBA 3 (minimumCORBA, CORBA Messaging,
Real Time CORBA) that render CORBA situable
for Embedded Systems, in a context with considerable hands-on exercises
and laboratory experiences. The basic lecture material
includes that covered by the Tutorial, described above.
The course may be customized to suit customer background and interests.
It may be shortened if less introductory material is
necessary, or made longer for more in-depth coverage of customer-specific
material.
The Instructor
S. Ron Oliver has been in the Software
Industry since 1968, with a roughly equal mixture of industrial and
academic experience.
Since 1974 he has specialized in Concurrent and Real Time Software
Engineering, including Computer Communication (Network)
Systems Engineering, and animated Concurrent and Real TimeSimulations.
During 9 years with the Computer Science and
Computer Engineering programs at Cal Poly he lead many research and
student projects in Object Oriented Design and
Implementation for Concurrent and Real Time Systems, and in the Distributed
Computing Environment (DCE).
Considerable work was done with projects to simulate Computer Networks
and to develop Real Time graphically animated
simulations. Dr. Oliver took early retirement from Cal Poly to return
to Colorado and work on methods to improve Software Quality.
Most recently he has been focusing on CORBA technology. Dr. Oliver
has an excellent reputation for Industrial Training as well
as University Education.
